League
Everyone plays everyone and the table decides. The fairest, but it takes the longest.
- Good for
- Up to 10 teams with time for everyone to play everyone, and leagues that meet every week.
- With 8 teams
- 28 matches, about 1 hour 40 minutes on 4 areas. Every team plays 7 matches.
- Shorter league
- A few rounds, not everyone. In each round you meet a team on about the same points. Above 10 teams, League starts as one.
- Divisions
- A league over a season can split into divisions. At the end, teams go up and down.
Groups, then knockout
Small groups first, then the best go through to a knockout. Everyone gets several matches.
- Good for
- A tournament day for 8 teams or more. Everyone gets a few matches, and it ends in a final.
- With 8 teams
- 15 matches, about 1 hour 10 minutes on 4 areas. Every team plays at least 3.
- Plate
- A second competition for teams that don’t go through.
Knockout
Win and you go on, lose and you’re out. Quick, with one clear winner.
- Good for
- A short session, or a night that builds to one big final.
- With 8 teams
- 7 matches, about 40 minutes on 4 areas. Every team plays at least 1.
- Second chance
- Lose once and you play on. Lose twice and you are out.
- Cup
- A knockout over several weeks, one round a night.
Scoreboard
Every team scores in every round and the total decides. For quiz nights and sports days.
- Good for
- Quiz nights, sports days and challenges, where teams don’t play each other.
- With 8 teams
- 6 rounds, about 1 hour 25 minutes. Every team scores in every round.
Good to know
- The times are for 8 teams on 4 areas, with 12-minute matches. Setup works them out for your own teams.
- Call your areas what you like, such as courts, lanes or tables, and say what a score counts.
- Playing is optional. Without it, a draft ends at the teams, as it always has.
